On March 6th, the Conway Area Lions Club presented a $2,000 donation to the Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund. The donation, accepted by Josie Lamb, APRN, Medical Director at the White Mountain Community Health Center, will be used to help cover the rental cost of a Diabetic Retinopathy Scanner. Josie Lamb stated that “offering this service to our patients in-house is going to significantly help close the gap in screening for diabetic retinopathy by eliminating logistical and financial barriers for our patients. This is especially important for our patient population, many of whom experience multiple barriers to accessing medical care.”
A diabetic retinopathy scanner, or retinal imaging device, is used to capture images of the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) to detect and monitor diabetic retinopathy, a common complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss. The money donated was raised through the Conway Area Lions Club’s ”Nachos in the Park” fundraiser, which is held annually in Schouler Park during the 4th of July Celebration Event.
If you would like to donate to help our local communities, there are two ways you can do so. First, you can donate towards our general charity fund. Money donated to our general charity fund will be used for eye and hearing care, local food pantries and other local organizations in need. Secondly, you can donate money that will go directly to a local food pantry. If you have a preference to which food pantry it goes to, please note it in the memo when making the donation.
